POT Assignment for Lesson 10.1 Presentation Skills and Dale’s cone experiences

1         State the suggestions for teaching through illustrations.

When teaching through illustrations, it's important to keep a few things in mind to ensure that the trainer/Instructor’s illustrations are effective in helping trainees understand the concepts he is trying to convey. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Use simple and clear illustrations that are easy to understand.

2. Choose relevant illustrations that are directly related to the topic he is discussing.

3. Use accurate and precise illustrations that accurately represent the concept he is trying to convey.

4. Avoid using too many illustrations, which can be overwhelming and distracting.

5. Ensure proper handling and display of illustrations to avoid any technical issues or distractions.

6. Use creative and interesting illustrations to engage and captivate his trainees/Students.

7. Avoid using technical language that may be difficult for his trainees to understand.

8. Prepare his illustrations well in advance to avoid any last-minute issues or errors.

9. Present his illustrations at the right time during his presentation to effectively support his message.

By following these suggestions, a teacher/instructor can effectively use illustrations to enhance the learning experience for ITI trainees and help them better understand complex concepts.

2         State the purpose of questioning.

Questioning plays a critical role in the teaching and learning process.

  • The purpose of questioning is to help students display and test their knowledge, elicit desired information, and develop subject matter in the class.

  • Effective questioning techniques also enable students to analyze problems related to the topic being taught and apply their knowledge to specific new situations.

  • Through questioning, students can evaluate for themselves their understanding of the concepts, identify gaps in their knowledge, and seek clarification from the teacher.

  • It also helps to motivate students to participate actively in the teaching and learning process, increasing their engagement and promoting a deeper understanding of the material.

  • Questioning can take different forms, such as open-ended questions that encourage students to think critically, or closed-ended questions that require a specific answer.

  • By using a combination of different types of questions, teachers can guide students towards a better understanding of the subject matter, help them to build on their knowledge, and encourage them to think more deeply about the topic being taught.

3         State what type of questions to be avoided in classroom teaching?

Questioning that should be avoided:

  • Yes or no type questions- they encourage guesswork.

  • Elliptical questions- those which require completion to get an answer

  • Echo or Suggestive questions- are based on concepts or facts just taught. Not have a useful purpose to encourage thinking

  • Leading questions – supplies own answer

  • Rhetorical questions- which emphasize a
    particular point
