POT Assignment 8.1: Instructional Technology

  1. Explain instructional technology

Instructional technology uses various hardware and software tools to design and deliver effective instruction to learners. It involves the use of a variety of techniques and principles to analyse, design, deliver and evaluate instruction. Instructional technology can range from low-tech tools such as chalkboards and models to high-tech tools such as multimedia computer programs and online courses. The ultimate goal of instructional technology is to produce effective instruction that achieves specific learning objectives and leads to changes in learners' behaviour.

  1. What do you mean by interactive instruction?

Interactive instruction involves two-way communication between the instructor and the learner, where the learner is actively engaged in the learning process through frequent responses and feedback. This approach allows for immediate remedial instruction or correction, which can help the learner to understand the material better and retain the information for a longer time. Interactive instruction can take different forms, such as group discussions, simulations, role-playing, problem-solving activities, and interactive multimedia programs. It is an effective way to promote active learning and improve learner engagement and motivation.

  1. Explain evaluation?

Evaluation is a critical component of instructional technology, as it allows for the assessment of the effectiveness of the instruction and the attainment of the learning objectives by the trainees. Evaluation can take different forms, such as formative evaluation, which involves ongoing assessment during the instruction, and summative evaluation, which is done at the end of the instruction to determine the overall effectiveness of the instruction. With interactive instruction, evaluation can be done continuously as the trainee's progress can be checked in real-time, and immediate feedback can be provided to help improve the learning outcomes. If the instruction is found to be ineffective in achieving the learning objectives, it may need to be revised or modified to better meet the needs of the trainees.
